Kathy was born and raised in Houston, Texas by a very strong Christian mother. Kathy and her older brother and sister attended a small Baptist church regularly, and Kathy prayed the Prayer of Salvation at the age of 6.
Kathy had many strong Christian influences, including the Grandmother who shared her birthday in August. Mema was a Cherokee Indian woman from Bedias, Texas, who was married to a strong Irish Christian named W. T. Adams, Kathy’s grandfather. Kathy wrote a song on her first album called, Bedias, Texas, as a tribute to Mema!
Bedias Baptist Church was where Kathy was baptized in full submersion, still while Kathy was in grade school. Kathy understood her need for a relationship with Christ, and chose her path early. God had plans for this little girl that she never dreamed of!
Growing up in a Christian home was not always easy, but it was worth it. Kathy has remained in the disciplines of the Word of God, and thanks God every day that He allowed her to have such a great family. Kathy is still VERY close to her family, and is an advocate for children.
Kathy and Leonard Treat have 4 children – 3 daughters and a son. The oldest, Kandice, was born in 1985. She is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in the Middle East. The family appreciates your prayers for her! “Kandi” played the guitar in a youth Praise & Worship band before joining the military, and continues to enjoy her music.
Ross was born in 1988, Jennelle in 1989, and Caroline in 1991. They are all still in school, and actively involved in church youth groups. Summertime for “The Treat Tribe” includes Sandy Creek Bible Camp, a camp that Kathy began attending when she was in the 4th grade! Sandy Creek Bible Camp folks are like family to the Treat family, and the Treat kids have grown up sharing the same strong Bible teachings at the camp as Kathy did. Kathy Treat realized her vocal talents at a young age, and began developing this talent in her school choirs. Her high school choir teacher, Mrs. Judy McEnany was a very fervent influence on Kathy’s strong voice, as well as a mentor spiritually. Even though it was in the public school system, Mrs. McEnany was able to bring in songs with Christian lyrics!
Kathy Yoder Treat not only sings Christian Country Music, she was also certified as a Christian Counselor in 1998. Kathy’s life experiences, as well as her studies enables her to share compassion as well as personal insight into most any emotional problem. Kathy studies and uses Scripture in her ministry to comfort those going through some of life’s most devastating circumstances. Divorce, remarriage, sickness and death are among Kathy’s expertise.
